Want to do your mixing while on the go? Or would you rather avoid taking your expensive decks to your mate’s party? Thankfully, there are plenty of apps that let you practise your mixing skills out and about from your phone, tablet or even your Apple Watch. Here’s a list of the best mobile mixing apps out there:
Platform: iOS and Android
Billed as the number one DJ app on the App Store, Djay 2 has Spotify integration as well as iTunes music library integration. It has even won the Apple Design Award. The app transforms your phone or tablet into a full-featured DJ system. You can perform live, mix on the go or, if you want to sit back and relax, you can let the app create a seamless mix for you automatically. If you have an iPad or Mac you can also opt for the Djay pro, which gives you excellent sound quality and a powerful set of features including high-definition waveforms, four decks and video mixing.
Considered a revolutionary DJ app, Traktor is made by Native Instruments – the makers of cutting edge DJ software. You can have the room rocking with the familiar iOS swipe and pinch gestures, and the mixer layout with its crossfader, 3-band EQ and filter on each channel has access to your iTunes music library. The smart browser recommends songs with a tempo and key that’s compatible with your current choice. You can even record your mixes live on an iPad. With so many features, it’s no surprise that Traktor is the world’s number one DJ app.

The Cross DJ app is made by MixVibes, a French company that has specialised in DJ software since 1999. It has an attractive interface, realistic scratch sound, key detection, 3-band mixer and you can record a mix and upload to SoundCloud, Facebook and Twitter directly.
One of the cheapest paid-for apps the iDJ is highly tuned to create mix tapes from your iTunes library. The app features a hyper-realistic turntable, the ability to record mixes on the go and is compatible with most sound files such WAV, MP3 or AAC. iDJ is also integrated with Algoriddim’s video mixing app, Vjay.
DJPlayer is a free pro DJ software app. The app has been around for a while and this means it has more features than the newer apps. One notable feature is DVS integration and its ability to sort the library. The interface can be quite complicated so it’s not one for casual DJs or beginners. Other features include manual beat-matching, tempo sync and beat sync abilities and it supports most timecode vinyl formats.
