Specialist orchestra insurance for you, your group, and your instruments

As part of a string quartet, chamber orchestra or symphony orchestra, you may want to consider getting insurance that can help financially protect you, the musicians in your group, and your instruments.

Orchestra insurance through Insure4Music includes cover options such as Public Liability, Personal Accident, and Equipment cover.

Don't need cover for your woodwind, brass or other orchestra instruments? Public Liability-only cover can start from just £33.07 for 12 months, and receive a public liability certificate once you take a policy out.

Who is specialist orchestra insurance for?

Specialist orchestra insurance is designed for orchestras and ensembles of all sizes, from chamber ensembles and youth orchestras to full symphony orchestras. If you’re performing at occasional community concerts or managing a busy schedule of rehearsals, tours and live performances, cover options are available to help financially protect instruments, equipment and performance activities.

Types of orchestras covered can include:

  • Community orchestras – who bring local musicians together for regular rehearsals, public concerts and community events throughout the year.
  • Youth orchestras – who provide young musicians with opportunities to rehearse and perform at schools, concert halls, competitions and organised music events.
  • Chamber ensembles and string quartets – who perform recitals, private concerts and smaller-scale performances using valuable classical instruments.
  • Symphony orchestras – who perform large-scale orchestral works involving multiple instrument sections, guest soloists and sizeable audiences.
  • Pit orchestras – who perform alongside theatre productions, musicals, ballets and live stage performances.
  • Touring orchestras – who travel across the UK and overseas to perform at concert halls, festivals and organised events.

Do I need orchestra insurance?

Orchestra insurance can help to financially protect orchestras and ensembles in a variety of situations, from rehearsals and concerts to theatre productions, outdoor events and touring.

All policies with Public Liability cover selected also include a certificate as proof of cover. Policies also allow unlimited rehearsals, concerts and performances throughout the policy term.

Some common scenarios you might need orchestra insurance include:

  • A concert hall, theatre or event organiser asks you for proof of Public Liability insurance before confirming a performance
  • You rehearse regularly in schools, churches, community venues or concert halls, where accidental injury or damage to third-party property could occur
  • Your valuable string, brass, woodwind or percussion instruments are transported between rehearsal venues and concert performances, where Equipment cover may help protect against theft, loss or accidental damage
  • You perform at concert halls, amphitheaters or outdoor events where larger audiences and shared performance spaces may increase potential liability risks (capacity limits apply).
  • You perform as part of a musical, opera or theatre production alongside other performers, technicians and production teams
