Specialist vinyl insurance for vinyl record collections

Building a collection of vinyl records can take up a lot of your time and money, often over the course of several years. When you’ve put so much of your time into curating your collection, you may want to consider getting specialist vinyl record collection insurance. Specialist vinyl record insurance through Insure4Music can help provide financial protection should your records be lost, stolen, or damaged.

Why should I consider insuring my vinyl record collection?

Compiling your collection of vinyl can be a significant investment; therefore, having vinyl record collection insurance in place can help financially protect your collection from theft, loss and accidental or malicious damage. This means that if something were to happen to your records and you make a successful claim, you can get the costs covered for a repair or replacement.

What music equipment can I get cover for?

Equipment cover can include cover for your record player, speakers, and other sound equipment that you use to play your records. If you also own musical instruments, you can choose to include these in the total amount insured on your policy, up to a maximum total value of £50k.

Does home insurance cover vinyl records?

Standard home insurance policies may include cover for your vinyl collection; however, there are several important considerations to be aware of before relying on your home insurance policy to protect your records. Key differences include:

Cover limits

  • Standard home insurance: Single-item limits typically around £1.5k–£2.5k, with total valuables limits often between £20k–£30k, which may be insufficient for high-value collections.
  • Insure4Music: Single-article limit of £15k, with cover for records and music equipment up to £50k on a single policy.

How claims are settled

  • Standard home insurance: Claims are usually settled at trade value.
  • Insure4Music: Offers new-for-old replacement or settlement at market value, which will typically result in a higher payout for collectable vinyl records should you make a successful claim.

*You can get the cost covered for replacement as new for the lost or damaged article, provided the article was not more than 3 years old (laptops and computers not more than 18 months old) at the date of the loss, and provided it was purchased new at the time. Evidence of Ownership will be required.
